Where Are They Now? RTS Charlotte Alumnus Carlton Wynne

One of the blessings of teaching at a seminary is seeing the various places to which God calls our graduates.  They are called into missions, pulpit ministry, counseling, campus ministry, women’s ministry, chaplaincy, and more.  And some are also called into academic ministry as they head towards a Ph.D. program and ultimately towards becoming a professor themselves.

One of our brightest graduates over the last decade has gone down this latter path.  Carlton Wynne (class of 2007) did his Ph.D. at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and now is a lecturer there in Systematic Theology.  But, Carlton is not only an academic.  Before heading into Ph.D. work he served as …

Where Are They Now? RTS Charlotte Alumna Alyson Averitt

I get asked all the time about what aspects of ministry can be improved in Reformed denominations in America (e.g., PCA, ARP, EPC, OPC). While there are many answers to that question, there is one that stands out: more Reformed churches need to include staff positions for women’s ministry. While the public preaching of the Word, done by ordained ministers, will always be the core ministry of any church, there are many other critical ministries that should not be ignored. New Review of James Anderson’s “What’s Your Worldview?”

James Anderson, Associate Professor of Theology and Philosophy here at RTS Charlotte, has written a wonderful little book entitled What’s Your Worldview?.  Over at Reformation 21, Gabriel Fluhrer has offered a very positive review. Although there are many books on the topic of worldviews (maybe too many), Fluhrer argues that Anderson’s is unique. He says, “Anderson’s work might be the best brief worldview book to date.”

He concludes his review:

In the end there is very little to criticize in Anderson’s work, even if one is not a Christian.  Those who hold to any one of the twenty or so worldviews Anderson scrutinizes will find their

New RTS Charlotte Women’s Bible Study on Romans

In the mid twentieth century, Martin Lloyd-Jones preached through Romans on Friday at night at Westminster Chapel in London.  Before it was all done, his series spanned 11 years and 372 sermons.  Now those sermons have been gathered together in a commentary series on Romans which is one of the finest available. I highly recommend it.

Although I don’t have plans to remotely challenge Lloyd-Jones epic series in Romans, this Fall we began a new study of Romans here at the RTS Charlotte campus.  It is a Wednesday morning Bible study for women in the Charlotte community.  I had the idea for this study a few years ago as I …

By Faith Magazine Highlights the RTS Charlotte Counseling Program

In the most recent issue of By Faith, the magazine of the PCA, there is an article on the new RTS Charlotte counseling program.  The article includes a brief interview with me about the need for, and the distinctives of, the Charlotte program.  The article is only in print version (so far), but I have included a scanned pdf of it here.

The article highlights a key part of RTS Charlotte’s approach, namely that we see counseling as part of the “ministry of the word.”   The By Faith article quotes me in this regard: “Whereas preaching is the public ministry of the Word, counseling can be understood as …
