Melissa Kruger Launches New Blog

I am very excited about my wife Melissa’s new blog which launches today. There are a tremendous amount of resources available on this site, covering a wide variety of topics such as women’s ministry, motherhood, contentment, life as a pastor’s wife, and more.

The site also includes a number of her articles, podcasts, talks, and videos.  Many of these have been published on other sites like the Gospel Coalition, Christianity.com, Reformation 21, and others.

Based on Psalm 107:27, she has creatively titled her new blog “Wit’s End: Having Nothing, Possessing Everything.”  Here is her explanation of the meaning of the title:

Slowly I am learning that being at my wit’s

Attention Seminary (and Ph.D.) Students: Here is Someone Who Understands Your World!

The life of a seminary or Ph.D. student (in biblical studies) can be a strange one. The subject matter is so esoteric, the languages are so ancient and out of date, and the vocabulary of the field is so idiosyncratic, that students feel that few people outside the seminary/Ph.D. world really understand them.

Well, there is hope!  Below is a hilarious video on biblical philology (what an exciting subject!) making the rounds, set to the tune of “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General” from the musical Pirates of Penzance.  The maker of this video clearly understands the seminary world:

Where Are They Now? The Complete RTS Charlotte Alumni Series (So Far)

For the last year, I have been doing a series highlighting various alumni from RTS Charlotte entitled “Where Are They Now?”  In each installment we ask the alumnus a series of questions about their experience in seminary, how it has helped them in their ministry, and what advice they would give to current students. The responses have been very encouraging and enlightening.

There has been no particular order to the series, but we have covered grads from a variety of different eras and who have entered into a variety of different ministries.  And I plan to continue this series in the year to come.

For those who want to track …

Where Are They Now? RTS Charlotte Alumna Alyson Averitt

I get asked all the time about what aspects of ministry can be improved in Reformed denominations in America (e.g., PCA, ARP, EPC, OPC). While there are many answers to that question, there is one that stands out: more Reformed churches need to include staff positions for women’s ministry. While the public preaching of the Word, done by ordained ministers, will always be the core ministry of any church, there are many other critical ministries that should not be ignored. And women’s ministry is one of them.

Paul explicitly gives the command that certain women in the church are to “teach what is good, and so train the young women” …

New Review of James Anderson’s “What’s Your Worldview?”

James Anderson, Associate Professor of Theology and Philosophy here at RTS Charlotte, has written a wonderful little book entitled What’s Your Worldview?.  Over at Reformation 21, Gabriel Fluhrer has offered a very positive review. Although there are many books on the topic of worldviews (maybe too many), Fluhrer argues that Anderson’s is unique. He says, “Anderson’s work might be the best brief worldview book to date.”

He concludes his review:

In the end there is very little to criticize in Anderson’s work, even if one is not a Christian.  Those who hold to any one of the twenty or so worldviews Anderson scrutinizes will find their
