@RTSCharlotte Calls Dr. Jim Newheiser as New Director of Biblical Counseling Program

As many of you know, just a short time ago RTS Charlotte launched a new Masters degree program in biblical counseling. This has been a very exciting venture for us and we believe it will meet a real need in the body of Christ.

We have already seen a tremendous outpouring of support and interest in the new program, and a number of our alumni are even coming back to take advantage of the new MACC degree.

From a pastoral perspective, one of the most common problems I come across in my church–a problem that is often hidden and concealed–is the problem of depression.  A substantial amount of people (more than we think) have a serious struggle with this issue.

For this reason, the RTS Charlotte campus is pleased to have Dr. David Powlison from CCEF come speak on this complex topic. David is the executive director of CCEF and one of the leading thinkers, authors, and speakers in the world of biblical counseling.

My Interview with Ed Welch of CCEF

This past fall, RTS Charlotte launched its new degree program in biblical counseling.  We are very excited about how God will use this new program to bless the church with men and woman who have been trained to apply God’s word more effectively in a one-on-one context.  You read more about the program here.

Last week (Jan 19-22), Dr. Ed Welch from the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) came and taught a week-long course for RTS Charlotte entitled, “Ethos and Essentials of Biblical Counseling.”  The course was so full (87 students) that we had to move it to our chapel.

By Faith Magazine Highlights the RTS Charlotte Counseling Program

In the most recent issue of By Faith, the magazine of the PCA, there is an article on the new RTS Charlotte counseling program.  The article includes a brief interview with me about the need for, and the distinctives of, the Charlotte program.  The article is only in print version (so far), but I have included a scanned pdf of it here.

New Counseling Program at RTS Charlotte

For the last year or more, we have been working on launching a new counseling program at RTS Charlotte.  Today the official announcement has gone out.  Here is the press release (click the last link in order to see a special video overview of the program):

Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC is pleased to announce that a new counseling degree program will begin in fall, 2014. The primary degree is the 66 credit-hour MA in Christian Counseling (MACC). There will also be options for an MDiv and MACC dual degree, an MATS/BS and MACC dual degree, and an MDiv with a counseling emphasis.
