Interested in Getting a Biblical Counseling Degree without Moving? Now You Can Do It @RTSCharlotte

This past week, I spoke at the TGC Women’s conference in Indianapolis. I did three sessions on a number of different topics, but the highlight was the RTS-sponsored lunch conversation where Melissa and I discussed why theology matters for women.
Afterwards, I was asked repeatedly about which degree program would be helpful for women wanting to go to seminary. Although all our programs are great, I think the RTS Charlotte Master of Arts in Christian Counseling degree (MACC) is a wonderful option.
What makes the MACC degree distinctive is that half of the 66 credit hours are in Bible and theology. Thus, MACC students not only know how to counsel, … Continue reading...
Interested in Getting a Biblical Counseling Degree without Moving? Now You Can Do It @RTSCharlotte

A number of years ago, RTS Charlotte launched a two-year Master of Arts in Christian Counseling degree (MACC) and it has been wonderful to see how it has grown. We believe that solid, Christ-centered, biblical counseling is critical to the health of the church.
This week we are announcing that we are now offering the MACC degree in an exciting new Summer/Winter format. This means that students can now get the MACC degree over the course of four years without having to relocate.
We are rolling out this new structure because we know there are many people who want to benefit from the MACC program, but are not able to … Continue reading...
Join Us for a @RTSCharlotte Class This Winter Term

Every winter term (basically the month of January), the Charlotte campus offers a great line-up of one-week intensive classes.
These are classes where the lectures can be taken all in one week (with the assignments due later). This allow students to travel from a distance to take a course.
The graphic below lays out all the classes we are offering. There’s still time to catch Bob Cara’s Acts-Romans class that starts on Monday!
Let me also draw attention to the fact that Ed Welch of CCEF will be joining us Jan 30-Feb 2 for Advanced Methods in Biblical Counseling. As is well known, CCEF has been a core influence … Continue reading...
Have Questions about Marriage and Divorce? Here is a Fantastic New Book That Answers the Key Questions

When it comes to shepherding God’s flock, there is little doubt that pastors spend a disproportionate amount of time addressing marriage problems in their congregations. Since marriage is a foundational institution created by God (Gen 2:23-25), it is perhaps no surprise that Satan attacks it relentlessly.
For this reason, I am excited about the new volume by RTS Charlotte counseling professor Jim Newheiser entitled, Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage: Critical Questions and Answers (P&R, 2017).
One of the unique features of the book is the structure. It is arranged into 40 different questions about marriage and divorce which allows the reader to turn directly to the question that is most pertinent … Continue reading...
How to Struggle with Grief: A Conversation with David and Nancy Guthrie (@saysNancyGuth3)

Over the years, I have noticed that the Reformed folks have a robust doctrine of sin, but (in my opinion) a fairly thin doctrine of suffering. And this is true in the broader evangelical world as well.
We tend to think of sin as simply impacting behavior or ethical choices. And we sometimes forget that sin also impacts every aspect of creation. We live in a fallen, broken world. So, we should not be surprised when our lives are affected by that fallen, broken world.
As a result of this blind spot, most people simply don’t know how to suffer or grieve biblically. Even more, most people don’t know how … Continue reading...
