Congratulations to Dr. Kevin DeYoung

I am pleased to announced that on Jan 10th, Kevin DeYoung successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Leicester in the UK.

In 2017, Kevin joined our faculty as Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology. He also serves as the senior pastor of Christ Covenant Church here in Charlotte.

Of course, Kevin is well known through his speaking, teaching, and writing ministry. He has been a great addition to the faculty and the students have loved his classes.

For those interested in taking a class with Kevin, this Spring term he will be teaching Systematic Theology 3: Ecclesiology and Sacraments.  For more, see here.

Will Ross Joins the Faculty of @RTSCharlotte as Assistant Professor of Old Testament

I am asked all the time about which faculty positions are hardest to fill.  Although the answer is debatable, I think that finding solid Old Testament professors is a significant challenge.

There are a variety of reasons for this.  One is that there are just fewer of them.  In the Reformed world especially, we have many more folks in systematics, historical theology, and church history.  But fewer in biblical studies (especially OT).

Beyond sheer numbers, there may be an even bigger reason that solid OT guys are rare.  Arguably, the OT is filled with proportionally more historical and theological challenges.  Such challenges include the days of Genesis, the question of …

Coming Home: @RTSCharlotte Alums Who are Now Professors at RTS

When it comes to being a seminary professor, I enjoy not just the teaching but also the watching.  That is, I enjoy watching to see how God will use each of our grads in ministry over the years. It is a reminder that our labor has not been in vain.

On that score, it is particularly satisfying to see former students turn out to be professors themselves.  And even more than that, it is encouraging when they actually return to RTS and become professors in the institution that taught them.
